Resident Assistant Duty

RD Duty Switch Form

This is a simple paper form that RA staff can use to request and agree to a Duty Switch. There are 2 copies in this document.

Residence Hall Opening

Opening Procedures and Checklist

This customizable checklist outlines opening tasks for the Resident Director, the Senior RA (if you have that position), and the RA. Also, included is the check-in process that we used. I used this process and checklist when I was supervising a 600+ bed apartment-style housing unit, so some tasks may reference apartment-style living.

This checklist is in a table format and lists all tasks the RAs have to do, including space for the due date and a place for you, the RD, to mark task completion. Also included is information about how we completed RCIs (Room Condition Inventories) and information about our Collateral Assignments that the RAs had.

This process was used in a large, 600+ bed apartment building but can be adjusted to suit your needs.

Residence Hall Closing

The procedures in this document were used for 2 traditional-style residence halls. Alpha was a first-year hall and Beta was a mixed first-year/upperclass traditional-style hall. Alpha and Beta Halls were a “residential complex” where the RAs did duty rounds in both buildings. The complex was supervised by an RD and I, the Assistant Director, supervised that RD. Each hall had about 250 residents. Use this information as reference material or adapt it based on your needs. Words highlighted in yellow should be customized to your individual situation.

This was created and distributed to each of the RAs in both buildings.I tried to give each RA a specific residential complex closing task for which they were responsible.

The procedures in this document were used for Main Hall, a large, 600+ bed apartment building. Main Hall was open 365 days a year and had a 24/7 front desk staffed by Desk Associates and security guards overnight. Use this information as reference material or adapt it based on your needs. Words highlighted in yellow should be customized to your individual situation.
